Ryan Joins Evolution Studios!

No much information right now but I have joined Jim Hanna and his buddies at Evolution Studios!

More to come on this right now but it will be nice to have a stable of artists to fall back on and have a go-to-guy for artists to go to flesh out ideas.

Just got done writing the BIGGEST pitch of my life. No info on this either...but its VERY big, least in my eyes.

So what's up and new for Evolution? Well I was looking for an artist to draw a 5-page 'Wise Intelligence - Still Waiting Prelude' which would be a prelude to the second story arc, so we'll see if someone wants in on it.

Ryan Joins A Studio!

Nothing official yet but .... I've joined a studio!
Four artists and one writer...ME!!!

Heehee...a great thing. I'm psyched.

What does it mean? Nothing for any upcoming projects but it'll be fun to have peeps to draw me stuff and have the artists have a writer to fall back on.

More SHORTLY.

The Salesman

One of the new comic series I'm doing is titled 'The Salesman'. It all started out in the mind of creator Howie Noeldechen who wanted to do a weekly strip over on his website www.hcnoel.com. The series started and, well, its damn good. Damn funny. It's very much a funny Y2K Dick Tracy and comes off wonderfully.

So when Howie and I decided to do something together he pitched to me the idea of doing a regular Salesman comic series. I jumped at the chance because, well, I love Howie's comic. Off we went.

So for those interested in reading the online strip now...take a read over at: www.hcnoel.com.

Pitt Con and Limited Ashcans Now Available

Pittcon went great. Rich and I got lost getting there and hit a SNOW STORM on the way back but it was awesome. Margot Kidder is, well, if you've seen her appearance on the Family Guy you kind of felt that every time you talked to her she was going to go nuts. :)

Limited ashcans of Wise Intelligence #1 are available - this bad boy is 24 pages long and includes 7 stories. It's a pretty nice little package and it's available now for a buck with a dollar shipping. So you can PayPal over two whole dollars to comicbookmaker@hotmail.com and I'll be sure to ship one over to you.

Phil Juliano was at the show and he had some great stuff he does with Al, Luchador's writer. I have a link to his site to the right, you should all go check it out. Phil should be starting shortly on the first 3 WI issues. NICE!

Pics from the con:

First off we got way lost and while lost on the way to Pitt we came across billboards for a restaraunt named 'Hoss'. Hoss has a 49cent burger. Not a hamberger...it just said BURGER. Ewww. When we finally came across one of these joints, I had to take a picture.

Uptown Girl Movie / New Ryan Articles

I already mentioned that I guest-wrote two upcoming issues of Bob Lipski's Uptown Girl. What I didn't mention is that somone is making his comic into a 30-minute live action movie! Real actors, director, everything...and it looks amazing. Thought I would share some pictures and head over to Bob's site to see LOTS more!!! BUY HIS BOOK...it is a GREAT fun read...especially when issues 26 and 27 come out (those are mine ;) ).

I'll be leaving for Pittcon today...come stop by and see me and Rich Bernatovech of Sentinels fame!

While I'm gone, enjoy some of my articles from the past two weeks!

Pittsburgh Comicon - Friday through Sunday!!!

Tomorrow Rich Bernatovech and I will be heading out to the Pitt Comicon! I'm not sure where I'll be hanging out, I'm sure I'll be helping Rich peddle his wares, talking to as many indy creators as I can, or rummaging through quarter bins! But def. keep a look out for Rich if you go and BUY HIS BOOK! Sentinels really rocks, I can't express that enough.

Sorry to hear that my good buddy Philip Clark isn't going. Sorry to all the Quantum fans out there!!! Don't worry Phil, Rich and I will toss back a few for you.

Anywho anyone interested in the Pitt Con can just click right here! Come find Rich and I and talk comics!!!

First Look: SPX Anthology Story!

In wanting to push more Wise Intelligence out there onto the world I decided to reteam with the WONDERFUL Howie Noeldechen to do a four page story for the SPX Anthology. I'm not sure if I'll be going to SPX or not this year, but I'd love to get there not only as a reporter but also get a table...TO SELL MY CRAP!!!! WOOHOO!

We'll see I guess but until then Howie and I are working on this four-page masterpiece featuring, once again, my buddies Whorfin and Servo (along with bartender Denise who makes her first appearance in Wise Intelligence #1). Howie and I have also started work on our new comic 'THE SALESMAN' based on Howie's weekly online strip available at his site www.hcnoel.com. While The Salesman might be a few months away, here's a sneak peek at the SPX Anthology story! It's VERY early...only pencils (and only two panels from page two) but...don't you just LOVE Howie's art???

A Brief Look at "Philly"

Philly is a series that is written by myself with amazing art by Jim Hanna with Evolution Studios and inked/colored by Raph with MAKMA Studios.

The first storyarc follows the young superhero team 'The Trio' as they align themselves with local police to investigate a rash of cop killings. The murders tie into a drug that has been killing rich teens and seemingly produced by a group of nasty vampires.

The idea for this book came about six years ago when it was titled 'The Trio'. I originally saw it as a comedy comic book about three best friends who got superpowers and decided to try and become superheroes. As time went on I saw this book as a chance to totally rip heroes apart while getting some of my own personal thoughts of how heroes might actually act in and out of uniform.

The result? I'm not sure until someone reads it. But the art looks PHENOM and I couldn't be happier. Here's two random pages from the pitch, you can always e-mail me with thoughts!

The Cover of WI#1 / Pitt Con Addy

This beautiful drawing, done by Raph over at Studio MAKMA, has already been seen on the site before but here is the actual cover of the first issue of Wise Intelligence! Raph is awesome and is currently inking and coloring the 5 page pitch of 'Philly' which I think I'll show off some pages of and explain sometime this week. Here's the cover!

Once again I remind that I'll be at Pitt Comicon with Phil Clark and Rich Bernatovech (and Jimmy Rodriguez)! Anyone wanting more information need only click right here!!!

I think tomorrow I'll go a bit into one of my other comics, Philly, and what that bad boy is about...intro the artist...and one or two of the pages!

Pitt Con, Uptown Girl, and More!

My first of 4 or 5 Comic Book Maker columns is in over at Newsarama so I figured I'd start off things with the blog once again!!! I got the Wise Intelligence Ashcans and they came out looking pretty damn good indeed, I was quite happy and now I can't wait for the book to be coming out.

Wise Intelligence #1 will be 'published' by Total Cult Comics in a nice nod to one of my favorite television shows 'Spaced'. Eleven stories all together now as I added in my buddy Bob Lipski's story 'Leeds and Leads' that I was planning on running sometime later but included it with the first issue.

Speaking of Bob you should head over to his site. His little book is PHENOM and I love it so much (and Bob to boot) that I asked him if I could write an issue. He said yes and that issue will be #26, two issues from now (#24 just came out). Then I wrote another which will turn in #27. Uptown Girl is a great fun read, monthly, and 24 pages. There is even a short film going into production...it starts filming TOMORROW! Pretty cool having a movie based on your comic I would say.

I will be at the Pittsburgh Comicon this coming Friday through Sunday. I'll be going there with Philip Clark and Rich Bernatovech (of Quantum: Rock of Ages and Sentinels respectively) and I do believe James Rodriguez, who is the artist on Quantum. So lots of fun is to be had by all there...ERNIE HUDSON will be in the house. If you can spot me swing on by...I"ll have a few ashcans with me and you can check out the comic. You can also meet Phil Juliano, who will be doing Wise Intelligence #2-4 (and hopefully many more after that!)

I'll be posting the cover of the comic in the next day or two. I'll be previewing two of the Wise Intelligence stories over at Newsarama - the first will be Sid's "Invincible" story with my first new column, with Scott Kellogg's "Spirit Animals" being previewed in the final column.

As for now, here's a look at two of Phil's sketches. The first is Elizabeth - a girl in two of Servo's classes who the fraternity guy has a major crush on. The second is Sera, the wonderful fun-loving girlfriend of Servo's best bud - Whorfin!
